REBECA GILLING
Mischievous, macabre, man-animal hybrids populate the work of clay artist Rebeca Gilling. She draws inspiration from "Cabinet of Curiosities" and the elusive future of genetic engineering. She presents the viewer with a menagerie of animalistic characters that unveil an intriguing narrative. The work is intelligent and enigmatic; never giving the viewer too much or too little to digest.
Gilling’s work is punctuated with a sense of irony and dark humor exploiting our own insecurities and human faults. Aesthetics is always taken in consideration, but never paramount.
